Hair Care

Hair care depends on one's hair type, lifestyle and how you style your hair.

Hair Types

Dry curly hair requires different hair care from straight fine hair. Hair should be handled gently especially when wet. Never use heat styling tools on very wet hair. High heat causes bubble to form in the hair shaft which causes the shaft to break easily. This causes damage to the hair.

Oily hair: people with oily hair may wash it frequently, let's say three times a week or more especially if they are active (sports people like swimmers). The idea here is to use mild shampoo. Most shampoos meant for oily hair tends to be harsh.  However, Use Conditioners that are made for oily hair .
Note that, some people have combination hair.  Hair that is oily at the crown, but dry at the ends. Mild shampoo is recommended also for this hair type.
Dry hair: wash it less frequently, probably once a week. Curly hair tends to be dry and more fragile than straight hair, so heat styling tools should be used with a lot of care and less frequent. Use shampoo and conditioners made for dry hair.

Heat styling tools like curling and straightening iron, flat irons and tongs dry out even oily hair if used frequently. Do not use these tools on very wet hair. Apply hair lotions that protect hair from being damaged by heat, for example pink lotions before using heat styling tools.
Chemical treatments can damage hair if not done properly. Color treatments, straightening or curling hair is best entrusted to a professional who are trained on these fields. They are able to assess your hair type and advice on the best treatments that will suit your hair.
